Synopsis

A rag-tag group of quirky, diverse, mis-matched female soldiers, stationed at the International Forces “Camp Firebird” (Training Camp), must band together to stage a morale-boosting Parade Drill to impress a visiting general. It all goes horribly wrong when it becomes a variety show, while the team navigate military mishaps, personal dramas, and the absurdity of army life.
Suitable for all ages. (There’s 2 small swears in the opening scene.)

This classic 1970 satire, by Nobel Prize winning writer, Dario Fo, comes to Coolum Theatre Players in April 2027. Multi award winning and shown across more than 40 countries, Accidental Death of An Anarchist has been a very long time coming to the Sunshine Coast.
Inspired by real life events, we watch a police inspector interrogating a clever and mischievous fraudster known only as The Maniac on the 3rd floor of police headquarters. Discovering that this very police station was the site of a recent “accidental” death of an anarchist falling from a police window, The Maniac lets himself loose to discover the truth of what happened.
Combining humour, anarchy and physical farce with black comedy and biting satire, this is arguably Dario Fo’s masterpiece and one of the most respected comedies in 20th century theatre.

The Play is based on the infamous character, ‘Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’, yet this story has a more humane approach and the author has depicted Sweeney Todd as a victim of circumstance and of his own vengeance, otherwise, the references to the barber shop incidents and Mrs. Lovett’s pies remain part of the original story. Set in the late 18th Century London.

They arrive at the opening weekend of Zenopia, a new wellness retreat, hoping to reset,
recharge and release their stress.
What they find is hope in each other.
