Coolum Theatre Players

Don't make the WONG decision and leave it too late to book tickets to GET SMART - the hilarious fun show that opens tonight at the Coolum Civic Centre.

This is the final production for the Coolum Theatre Players in their 30th birthday year and there's only SIX performances, kicking off tonight!

Directed by Lisa and Kevin Blair and featuring a fabulous 30-strong cast and crew of talented people from all up and down the Sunny Coast, the show brings to life the popular hit tv comedy series.

Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, stumbles from one case to the next, thankfully helped by the beautiful and smart Agent 99 and managed (mostly!) by the Chief of CONTROL.

Join the madcap fun as the CONTROL secret agents come up against evil villains - like Mr Big and.... the evil Wong sisters (pictured). These KAOS baddies are a bag of trouble!

BETSY WONG - a short fuse and a sadistic streak! Played wonderfully by Michelle England in her theatre debut. She's thrilled to be ticking off a bucket list item - acting!

MARY WONG - the big sis of the outfit and a no-nonsense organiser. Do not cross her!
Played by Melissa Jane Smith, who has returned to acting this year after a break and is now making her CTP debut.

SHIRLEY WONG - the ninja moves from this talented pocket rocket are a sight to behold. You can't get past her, she's monitoring everyone's moves, especially the CONTROL agents.
Played by Tracey Simpson who has appeared in various roles with other Sunshine Coast community theatres and festivals.

Welcome to the dark side ladies!

So disappointed we will miss the show tomorrow night. Moonie is in hospital again 😳 Chookas everyone

OPENING NIGHT IS THIS FRIDAY.... and.....

What's a great spy tale without a little...... KAOS!!

Yes, while the good guys may be with CONTROL we need some BAD guys creating mischief for them.
And we certainly have the BEST villains in the business.

Meet GARTH (the Thug) and the evil MR BIG.

Well-known to Coolum audiences, Jacob Shannon (left) takes on a role of a very different kind this time around as he gets his "bad guy" boots on and joins KAOS in another evil plan.
The main man carrying out Mr Big's evil wishes, he also supervises a gang of mischievous ninja-like associates. (But more on them.... later......)

Mr Big will delight you all with his sinister debut on the CTP stage. Tristan Bishop has performed at various venues around the Sunshine Coast in a range of different roles and is delighted to be joining the fun and entertainment at Coolum for the first time.
In his BIGgest role ever, Tristan is shining as the leader of the KAOS outfit. What evil plan is he hatching??

To find all this out (and more!) you need to BOOK NOW or risk missing out on all the action. Shows are selling fast!

You can book an entire table of 8, or choose individual seats.
Show dates are:
Fri Nov 16, Sat Nov 17, Fri Nov 23 and Sat Nov 24 all at 7.30pm
OR
Sun Nov 18 and Sun Nov 25 at 2pm if you prefer a matinee time-slot

One performance is already close to sell out status, and more are close behind, so be quick!

Book online at www.coolumtheatre.com.au or call in and see the team at North Shore Realty in Coolum during office hours and they will get you all sorted.

Either way, be quick about it, this is one very super secret assignment that you MUST NOT FAIL!

Coolum Theatre Players

Classic TV hit comes to the Coolum stage!

Get ready, get set, GET SMART!
The ever-popular hilarious hit TV series from the 1960s is coming LIVE to the stage this month, thanks to the Coolum Theatre Players.

With a script adapted by Christopher Sergel from the original series created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the local theatre company is breathing life into the well-known characters – Maxwell Smart, Agent 99, Chief and the kooky villains from KAOS.

Coolum Theatre Players turned 30 this year and the iconic show is the ideal one to finish the birthday year on a high note.

Experienced directors Kevin and Lisa Blair have been working solidly for the past three months with a cast and crew of more than 30 people to re-create 1960’s Washington DC and to bring the comedy to life for the six performances which kick off on November 16.

The Buderim couple have directed the show before at a theatre company in WA. They have won various acting and directing awards for a swag of productions over the past 20 years, as well as having attended the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) Summer School training. Since re-locating to the Sunshine Coast in February last year, they have been involved in directing and performing at various theatres including BATS in Buderim, Lind Lane in Nambour and CTP in Coolum.

“When Coolum put the call out for a show to wrap up the 2018 season we brainstormed a few ideas and then proposed Get Smart,” Mrs Blair said.

“It’s such a fun show, provides great acting opportunities for the 24-strong cast and is highly entertaining. It’s the perfect night out for a Christmas function or end of year catch up with friends.”

The cast includes some well-known faces who have acted before on the Coast, along with plenty of talented newcomers, making their stage debut. We cannot give too much away about the plot but we can tell you that your favourite characters will be there, along with the usual crazy secret agent gadgets from CONTROL headquarters and some amazing costumes and props reflecting 1960s style.

Tables of 8 are available for each of the six performances but are selling fast! You can book individual seats or a full table by heading online to www.coolumtheatre.com.au or by heading in to North Shore Realty in Coolum during office hours, or phone them on 5446 2500.

Opening night is Friday November 16 at 7.30pm. Subsequent shows are on Saturday November 17 at 7.30pm, Sunday November 18 at 2pm, then Friday and Saturday November 23 and 24 at 7.30pm and finally on Sunday November 25 at 2pm.

Guests are very welcome to BYO their beer, wine and soft drinks and nibbles or platters to share with friends to ensure a great time out while the show is underway. But be quick, we’ve heard that the villains from KAOS are stealing the seats, so don’t miss out!

CTP COMMITTEE 2018-19

Welcome to the new Coolum Theatre Players’ Committee.

Following the recent AGM, the new team (pictured) includes: Fiona Bastion, Mallory Young, Jenny Gilcrist, Greg McMahon and Julie Delmore.

Mallory Young has taken over the presidential reins from David Coleman.
Welcome Mal!

Here’s a little more info about our new president:

“Never work with children or animals!
I think I took this advice as a challenge as I have not only worked as an educator within the Drama field, but also as a Veterinary nurse. The logical progression? Becoming the president of The Coolum Theatre Players!

When I have trod the boards, I have been a temptress, an unimpressed matriarch and a despondent witch. I have also stumbled into many roles within the theatre family including Lighting design for Rock Eisteddfod (Miles, 2001), Stage manager for ‘Rapunzel’ (Margaret River), lighting for ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (CTP), and Sound for both ‘Spamalot’ and ‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’ (CTP).

Yes, you will see me generally skulking around backstage and maybe even on stage. I now look forward to a larger role as President of The Coolum Theatre Players!”
