There’s a role for everyone at CTP! Why not join us?

By | Backstage volunteers, Other News, Other news, Uncategorized

Are you fascinated by the world of theatre? Not ready to be onstage yet or not really interested in acting?  There’s still a way you can be an essential part of Coolum Theatre Players – join us behind the scenes!

The roles we have on offer include:

Wardrobe: everything related to costumes. If you can sew a simple hem, press garments or if you can turn your hand to adding sequins or taking in a skirt, we’d love to have you. But there’s more to wardrobe than that – we also look after wigs, help the actors dress, are on hand in performances for quick changes. And we are always prepared to tackle costume emergencies when a safety pin can save the day!

Lighting & sound:  Without our techies we’d be speechless and in the dark! We are looking for up and coming technicians who can run a sound desk and make sure our actors are always in the limelight.  Whether you already have some experience or would like to learn the skills alongside one of our techie team, please get in touch with us and find out more.

Stage management: Our tri-annual productions keep us all on our toes and no-one is busier than our stage manager, who runs the show backstage singlehandedly. However, we’d love more ASMs – Assistant Stage Managers – to learn the wide range of skills that keep our shows on track, on time and thoroughly professional. If you have stage management skills or would like to learn from an expert – join us!

Props: Under the eye of the stage manager, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that our props are present and in good working order throughout the run of performances. Nobody wants to be on stage and realise that the telephone they need to pick up is still backstage!

Stage crew: These team members construct our sets and move them about. They also do wonders with all sorts of materials to create effects that you’d swear are real. There may be some heavy lifting involved, so we need people with strong arms as well as skills such as carpentry or painting.

Front of House: The FoH team are our helpful meeters and greeters. Usually seen wearing a CTP t-shirt, or occasionally dressed up to match the show’s theme, they guide our ticket holders to their tables, point out where the loos are, and sell coffee, tea or raffle tickets – all with grace and a smile. If you are lively and helpful, and like to interact with people, this could be the very thing for you!

All these roles are voluntary, and we welcome people of any age who want to get involved with our happy and friendly community theatre family. If you are interested in joining us or want to know more, please contact us at president@coolumtheatre.com.au
