We are thrilled that fifteen year old Harper Ramsey, who played the March Hare in our pantomime ‘Alice in Wonderland’ last year, was awarded this prestigious bursary. He comes from a family with long involvement in the arts and started acting with Drama Fun’s home school drama class when he was 8 years old. His first notable role was the following year as Scar in an adaptation of ‘The Lion King’.
Harper was with the Eumundi Indee Theatre for 3 years, performing in multiple pantomimes and plays, including the role of Bunty in their centenary production of ‘Seven Little Australians’. He also began to study other aspects of performing including dance and voice.
In January, 2015, Harper joined Johanna Wallace’s Little Seed Theatre Company. Since then he has immersed himself in the varied classes and workshops with guest tutors covering physical theatre, character development, improvisation, musical theatre, and Stanislavsky Method.
He currently takes part in the Secondary Acting Masterclass and Musical Theatre and is a teen mentor to the Primary Acting Masterclass. His roles with Little Seed so far have been Narrator 2 in ‘The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza’ (winning 2nd Best Play at the 2015 Sunshine Coast Youth Theatre Festival), the Albatross in ‘Alice Dreaming’, and most recently the Comedian in this year’s SCTF winning play, ‘A Dollar’, on 14th August. Harper will next be on stage as Joseph in Little Seed’s December Musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’.
Coolum Theatre Players acknowledge that today’s youth are the future of local theatre and wish to encourage their passion for the performing arts. This Award will be used for skills development courses, mentoring programs and relevant items which may assist in Harper’s art’s development. Congratulations from us all.
