BEST FEMALE ACTOR, BEST PLAY AND $1,000 BURSARY AWARD FOR ‘LABELED’ AT THE SUNSHINE COAST YOUTH THEATRE FESTIVAL

Seventeen year old Cameron Rouse started acting (against her will) at age 11, when her mum made her audition for the school musical, ‘Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat’, as a confidence booster.

In 2011 she attended S.O.D.A classes with Mary Eggleston and Sue Davis, involved with 2Muse Productions performing in ‘Cleo Missing’ and ‘Epiphany’ before joining Johanna Wallace, Little Seed Theatre Company, in 2012.

Currently at the Queensland Academy for Creative Industries in Brisbane, (an International Baccalaureate school for years 10, 11 and 12 specialising in visual art, theatre, film and music), Cameron has been exposed to a whole new world of theatre.  This year she’s had the once in a lifetime privilege of working on a Butoh show.

As part of her final theatre assessment, Cameron and 3 fellow classmates known as Entropy, undertook a specific role (direction, actor, playwright,) and came up with an original piece of theatre.   ‘Labeled’ is the product of her experiences as both actor and performance maker and is at the Brisbane FAST Festival October 2nd and 4th.

Coolum Theatre Players’ $1,000 Bursary will go towards an audition workshop with NIIDA plus a bachelor of fine arts in 2016.   Cameron hopes to pursue a career as an actor and continue to create art that is thought provoking.

She would like to use her art as a vehicle for making a change to a particular issue close to her heart, the issue of adoption.
