The Superlative Six 😂

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to one very happy winner Rob Walford "I never win anything" of Mudjimba who took out the major raffle prize following our sell out season of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Rob picked up his Sharp microwave last week and is thrilled with his win.

Coolum Theatre Players

Sending another big CHOOKAS to everyone on the Chicken ranch as they head into the final THREE sold out shows of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.

What a fabulous time they've all had bringing this always-popular musical to the stage.

And here's a reminder just one more time .......... every great musical needs great music! And in the case of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" there's a hugely talented BAND playing all the tunes LIVE!

MEET THE BAND!

Musical Director John (JR) Rush (top right) has been joined by three very talented local musicians to form THE CHICKEN RANCH BAND.

Standing with him is Beerwah's Peter Gotobe, an 'old hand' at stage musicals, who adds to the musical flavour by turning his hand to the tea chest bass!

Danielle Downs (bottom left) is a fresh talent from Buderim with a glorious voice and an individual musical style.

Kerrie Garside from Caloundra West, on guitar and percussion, is an experienced singer/songwriter performing regularly around the Sunshine Coast.

The Chicken Ranch Band has had rave reviews already and we know there's going to be more of the same this weekend.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

The townsfolk/hecklers and TV station crew start campaigning to have the Chicken Ranch closed down, after being ignited into action by TV's "Watchdog" Melvin P Thorpe.

This is Dave Martin and Gerry Geltch’s first appearance on stage and wow, what a time they’ve had, with roles including fondling breasts and streaking half naked across the stage!
Whilst the ladies are all well known actresses across a number of community theatres on the Sunshine Coast: Susan M Brown (BATS Theatre Inc), Kathryn Barnes ( Lind Lane & 3bcreative), Sharron Benett (Coolum Theatre), Marie Poulton and June Gotobe
(Caloundra Chorale and Theatre Company).

The actor playing Melvin is new to theatre and recently moved to Mudjimba. He goes under the name of Majic Mirra which is his stage name.

The show is completely SOLD OUT so we hope you all got your tickets! After the first three performances on the weekend, the cast, band and crew are having a well earned few days off, and then will be back into it on Friday night.

Here's a few more cast members to meet - Edsel, Doatsy Mae and CJ Scruggs

Jacob Shannon - Edsel
Unexpected knee surgery prevented Jacob appearing as the Conquistador in Coolum’s The Addams Family. Previously on the Coast, Jacob performed in Keeping Down With The Joneses, and All for One…and Everyone for Himself at The Lind. He starred in Sweet Fanny Adams, appeared in Summer Wonderland and Red Riding Hood at BATS last year, Tinder Surprise for the one acts festival and CTPs Spamalot last November. He’s enjoyed working alongside many new faces as well as the great music and ideas from director Jennifer Roussset and MD JR.

Julia Loaney – “Doatsy Mae” the waitress
Julia has been a passionate member of Coolum Theatre Players since 2003, having served on the committee from the outset, then as President and Publicist, whilst also appearing in numerous musicals, cabaret productions, pantos and plays. She humbly accepted Life Membership in 2017 and the Volunteer of the Year at the 2018 Coolum Lions Club Australia Day Awards. Julia jokes that while it painstakingly took time and buckets of makeup for her to look the part of the 102 year old grandma in The Addams Family, no amount of makeup was going to make her look like a 22 year old whore in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas!! So she’s delighted that there’s the role of Doatsy Mae, the waitress, suitable for her because she absolutely loves working under Jennifer Rousset’s direction. Julia also loves “harmonising” every Thursday morning with the luscious voices that make up Cool Harmonies community choir.

Gareth Puckeridge – CJ Scruggs
Gareth made his stage debut singing and tapping in 1999 in the Australian amateur premiere of Crazy For You and went on to appear in My Fair Lady before expanding into stage production and make up artistry. He returned to the stage in 2006 when he joined Coolum Theatre Players cast of The Great Pretenders The Sequel and has made several appearances in Ensembles with them, since. His most recent performance was in Spamalot in November last year.
