2017 AGM - Heath

In 2007 CTP were desperate to find a lighting person for an upcoming production and this 30 year old greens keeper came on board with enthusiasm.  He has dabbled with lighting desks, follow spots, smoke machines, strobe lights, sound desks, microphones, miles of leads and cables to ensure the cast in 200 shows over this period have shone on stage.   Over the years we’ve upgraded our equipment and he’s diligently learnt all these new digital techniques!  It was now his turn to be in the spotlight, even if for one night – seen above with re-elected President David Coleman

2017 AGM - Eden Award

Eden first discovered acting at the age of 10 with Little Seed Theatre Company, and a life-long passion was born.  Her first performance was Gracious, in “Goodness Gracious”.  She has since performed in lead and minor roles in productions of “Peter Pan”, “Grease the musical”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Fantasists”, “Alice Dreaming”, “Jungle Book”, and more.   “Even having a minor role means you can play around and turn it into whatever you want”, she said.

In Eden’s recent comedic performance, of “Australian Drama”,  for which she was awarded CTP’s $1,000 Youth Bursary by Adjudicator Lucas Stibbard, she played the role of Helena, a foreigner on exchange. The things she most enjoys about acting is the rewarding reactions from the audience and the feeling you get once you’ve successfully completed a play.  Whether you’re the wicked, cheeky fairy or a confused foreign tourist, she loves to play around with any character.

Eden intends to put the bursary towards furthering her education in drama – possibly a course or workshop.

Congratulations, Eden Tregear, on being awarded Coolum Theatre Players’ $1,000 Youth Bursary, by adjudicator, Lucas Stibbard, at the recent Sunshine Coast Theatre Fest.  Eden played the role of Helena, in Little Seed Theatre Company’s production, “Australian Drama”, a comedy directed by Ilsa Wynne-Hoelscher Kidd.  A record number of 19 plays in the Primary and Secondary Sections were showcased at The Lind theatre over the weekend of 19th and 20th August.  So many awards, so much talent, made for some difficult decision-making for Lucas.  So impressed, and at his discretion, he awarded 38 Certificates of Distinction.  Congratulations to all the actors, some 320 in total and their directors, on an outstanding level of performances.

Coolum Theatre Players are especially proud of Eden, as she recently played the role of the wicked Fairy Bovver Boots in our school holiday production of “Beauty and the Beast” – photo attached, (wearing green).

Eden could not be present to receive her award, so Julia Loaney, on behalf of Coolum Theatre Players, presented the Bursary Award to the director.  Photo – Lucas, Julia, Ilsa, with Bendigo Bank’s Robert Chittick.

Sixteen year old Coolum State High School student Paige Fallu has been awarded the 2017 Coolum Theatre Players $1,000 Arts Bursary.

Paige recently auditioned and competed at the World Championships of Performing Arts in New York City where she completed a four-week musical theatre course.  The musical theatre programme was run for students through the New York Film Academy to help develop their dance, acting and singing skills.  Having been awarded this $1,000 Bursary will enable Paige to pursue her dream of a career in musical theatre.  She is looking at attending a course at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Australia’s premier performing arts academy.

“The musical theatre programme through the New York Film Academy was a really good experience;  not just for Broadway and training, but also life experience.  I’ve always been singing and dancing but I got really into it after I saw my first musical.  I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life.  New York really reignited that passion.  Now thanks to Coolum Theatre Players, with this Bursary I’m one step closer”, Paige said.
